Where to Buy PVD Coated Steel in Bangalore (and What to Ask)

PVD-coated steel has become the default for premium railings and interiors in Bangalore. But quality varies a lot between suppliers. Here is how to buy well.

First: make sure it is actually PVD

Some "gold" fittings sold cheaply are electroplated or painted, not PVD. These chip, peel and tarnish within months. Genuine PVD is vacuum-bonded, far harder and does not peel. Ask directly which process was used. How PVD works.

Check the base metal

PVD is a thin colour layer — it does not make weak steel strong or stop the base from corroding if the grade is wrong. Confirm the base is SS 304 (or 316 for wet and coastal areas), not 202 with a gold coat.

Buy the whole set in one batch

PVD tone can vary slightly between production runs. Spigots from one batch and brackets from another may not match under daylight. Order all pieces together, including a few spares for future service.

Inspect before accepting

  • Colour consistent across all pieces
  • No patchiness, dull spots or rainbow banding
  • Coating even on edges and inside corners
  • Protective film intact

Questions to ask your supplier

  1. Is this true PVD or electroplated?
  2. What is the base grade — 202, 304 or 316?
  3. Is all of this from one batch?
  4. Can you supply matching spares later?
  5. Is there a grade certificate?
