Why Cut-to-Size Steel Saves Money (and Time)

Most buyers order standard 6-metre lengths out of habit, then cut on site. For many projects, ordering cut-to-size is genuinely cheaper. Here is the maths.

1. You stop paying for offcuts

If your job needs 1.8m pieces, a 6m length gives you three with a 0.6m remnant that usually becomes scrap. Across a project, that waste adds up to real money.

2. Less site labour

Cutting stainless on site takes time, blades and skilled hands. Material arriving ready to assemble frees your team for actual fabrication.

3. Better edge quality

Shop cutting gives square, clean edges. Site cuts are often rough and need extra finishing — especially visible on polished or PVD material where a burnt edge shows.

4. No blade damage to finishes

Cutting PVD or mirror-polished material on site risks scratching the finish. A shop cut with proper support and protection avoids this.

5. Easier transport and handling

Short pieces are easier to move, especially in dense areas like Kalasipalyam or into apartment lifts.

When standard lengths still make sense

• You need long continuous runs (handrails over long spans)
• Sizes are not finalised and you want flexibility on site
• You have efficient in-house cutting and can use the offcuts

How to order cut-to-size properly

1. Send a clear cut list: grade, section, wall thickness, finish, and each length with quantity
2. State tolerance if it matters
3. Order a small allowance for site adjustment on critical pieces
4. Confirm finish protection for polished or PVD material
